Composition

There always seems to be a week or two of sudden early spring in March or April here in the South of France and it was on one of these tastes of the coming season that I walked into the kitchen in the afternoon. The window was open and the lingering bits of the noon meal where still on the counter: empty wine glasses, plates with crumbs and cheese rinds, strawberries tipped from their wood veneer basket onto the counter for little hands to choose some to wash for our fruit. And it was in that rare quiet moment, with warmth and a gentle breeze coming in the window, that I was suddenly immersed in the scent of the ripe sweet strawberries and crisp fruity rosé wine. So strong was the emotion of the scent that like a film before my mind's eye I was plunged into an moment between two lovers, quiet connection, a world of their own outside of time, and the heady scent of warm strawberries and cool wine between them. Fleeting and eternal.
