Day 3 - Cassis Jewels
There is a kind fellow gardener at the allotment who is masterful at chatting. Sometimes, when we are in a rush, we try to plan our garden stops around when we know we might not be so likely to run in to him. It has been so hot that I have only been able to return to the garden now, for very quick morning visits. "Do you have any cassis (black currants)?" this gardening comrade asked me, "When do you know when to harvest them?". I said, let's go look and as I lifted the dentelated leaves, jewels of black berries appeared. We tasted them and agreed, now was the time to harvest them. As I filled my brown paper bag with the cassis, I thought how they had to be on today's Summer Table and how if I hadn't stopped to chat, I would have passed them by again. In the studio with the black orbs spilled across the table, I felt rich indeed.
Museum-quality prints made on thick matte paper from Japan.
• Paper thickness: 10.3 mil
